Kia ora KiwiRail,
In the near future, Dfb locomotives will be withdrawn from the Te Huia Hamilton to Auckland train and replaced by DL class locomotives. Could you please tell if these locomotives will be hauling the train at 100kph or 80kph please?

Good afternoon Niall
I am advised that there is some investigation work is being done to determine if DL locomotives can run this service at 100km/h.
However, it is possible that the 80km/h limit will remain in place.
There is a useful advantage though with the higher horsepower and therefore acceleration of the DL compared to Dfb, the comparison between a 100/80km/h is negligible and impact on the timetable has been deemed to be minimal - i.e. a few minutes in total transit time.
Kind regards
Dave
