From: Richard Shaw

Dear University of Auckland,

I am requesting the following information under the Official Information Act regarding the University’s consideration of graduate entry pathways for professional health programmes. This request refers to the 2022 Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences Health Education Report as well as a recent email circulated by the Department of General Practice & Primary Health Care.

[1] Any reports, reviews or analyses produced from January 2023 to December 2025 that relate to
 a. graduate entry pathways for professional health programs
 b. the proposed BMedHSc or equivalent feeder degree
 c. redesign of the medical, nursing, optometry, pharmacy, audiology or medical imaging curricula
 d. primary care or community placement capacity

[2] Any documentation identifying working groups, advisory groups or steering groups established from January 2023 to December 2025 on these topics, including terms of reference, minutes and outputs.

[3] Documents produced from January 2023 to December 2025 relating to the “gap year” intake freeze model proposed in the 2022 report. This includes
 a. any analysis explaining why a gap year intake freeze in 2025 did not occur
 b. any planning documents discussing whether an intake freeze is being considered for any future year
 c. modelling of reduced or zero year intakes for the MD or MBChB programme

[4] Any implementation plans produced from January 2023 to December 2025 for transitioning undergraduate health programmes to graduate entry pathways, including timelines, pilot models, transition structures and risk assessments.

[5] The full, unredacted version of the Health Education Report released in 2022, including all sections relating to clinical degrees (BNurs, BOptom, BPharm, Master of Audiology and Bachelor of Medical Imaging), and including the financial modelling. As this report is now almost four years old, I note that negotiations are unlikely to be affected by the release of old financial information.

[6] Any documents produced from January 2023 to December 2025 outlining current or proposed selection criteria for the MD and other graduate entry health programmes. This includes GPAs, interview or MMI structures, prerequisites and any documents outlining the rationale for these criteria.

[7] Any documents produced from January 2023 to December 2025 outlining proposed course structures or curricula for the BMedHSc or any equivalent feeder degree under development.

[8] Correspondence from January 2023 to December 2025 between the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences and the School of Biological Sciences relating to the integration of Biomedical Science and Health Science pathways, including discussion of curriculum depth, postgraduate pathways and capacity concerns.

[9] Correspondence from January 2023 to December 2025 with external bodies relating to these proposed changes, including the Medical Council of New Zealand, Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand, the Tertiary Education Commission and the Australian Medical Council.

[11] Any documents produced from January 2023 to December 2025 outlining proposed or revised clinical placement structures, including general practice, rural medicine and community placements.

Thank you for your time and effort.

Yours faithfully,

Richard Shaw
