Dear University of Otago,
Kia ora,
I am a student seeking clarification about the selection requirements for admission to the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) at the University of Otago for the 2026 academic year. I would appreciate further information regarding both the Graduate category and the Health Sciences First Year (HSFY) category, as well as how selection works across all subcategories, including General Entry.
I would be grateful if you could please clarify the following:
For the 2026 intake, what are the minimum and maximum academic requirements for both the HSFY and Graduate categories for BDS for general category?
For Graduate Entry: Provide the Successful GPA please.
How many students were invited for interview and what was the weighted GPA required to be invited for an interview?
What were the approximate minimum and maximum marks/GPA ranges of successful applicants for 2026 entrance across all BDS subcategories, including but not limited to:
HSFY General Category
Graduate Category (General)
Māori and Pacific
Rural
Refugee / Alternative categories
I understand the exact cut-offs change annually, but any indicative ranges (e.g., average GPAs, approximate minimum and maximum grades for selected applicants) would be extremely helpful.
Are there any planned changes to BDS selection criteria for the 2026 admissions cycle that applicants should be aware of?
How many students were admitted overall for the BDS Programme intake for 2026?
Thank you very much for your time and assistance.
Ngā mihi nui,
Student
