Please clarify whether you are requesting, in relation to the 23 Grad RRAS students who took up places in the 2019 MBChB programme and the 26 Grad RRAS students who took up places in the 2020 MBChB programme, statistics about what programmes of study they had previously completed and their majors for those programmes. You should note that the University does not have these statistics on hand, so to make the requested information available to you we would need a staff member to manually go through each of these student's transcript and create the requested statistics. Please advise whether you would be willing to pay a charge for the supply of this information, in accordance with the Official Information Act charging guidelines. If so, we will make enquiries and respond to advise you of our estimate of the charge and any other issues associated with your request.

Dear Ushil Patel,

 

I refer to your request in your email of 22 August 2020 and your further
requests for information in your emails of 25 and 26 August 2020.

 

22 August 2020 request:

The University has decided to make the requested information available to
you without imposing a charge (see attached).

 

25 August 2020 request:

"With regards to the Highest unsuccessful grad applicant for 2019 (with a
GPA of between 8.5 and 9). Given that this is quite a high GPA, so would
this person have an interview score under the minimum score for entry
(125-150) and a subpar UMAT result?"

 

We can make the following general points about the statistical information
already provided to you and the University's admissions process:

1. "Unsuccessful" RRAS applicants here refers to applicants who were
attended the interview but did not receive an offer of place.

2. When RRAS applicants are considered for an offer of admission,
successful applicants will have a higher final ranking scores than
unsuccessful applicants.  The ranking score is based on GPA, MMI and
UMAT/UCAT.

3. If, for whatever reason, an applicant attended an interview but is not
considered for an offer of place, they would appear in the statistics for
unsuccessful applicants but not be given a final ranking score. For
example, if an applicant withdrew their application after attending the
interview, they would be counted in these statistics as an unsuccessful
applicant.

 

We cannot provide you with the requested information about this particular
applicant's academic results for privacy reasons. This part of your
request is refused under section 9(2)(a) of the Official Information Act.

 

26 August 2020 request:

"Also, I can see that 38 graduate students received an interview offer,
and 26 was successful in getting a final offer. No students who got an
interview didn't get accepted through graduate. Does that mean those 12
students declined their interview offer or declined their final offer?"

 

Applicants who received an offer of an interview but did not take up
places in the MBChB programme either (a) were not offered a place in the
MBChB programme or (b) were offered a place in the MBChB programme but did
not accept the offer. Declining the interview offer, failing to attend the
interview, or attending the interview but not meeting the performance
threshold to receive an offer, are all reasons why an RRAS applicant who
received an interview would not be offered a place in the programme.

 

You have the right to make a complaint to an Ombudsman if you are
dissatisfied with this response.
