From: Chris McCashin
Dear Ministry for the Environment,
I am writing to request information under the Official Information Act 1982.
It is noted that the Ministry for the Environment has publicly stated there is no evidence to suggest that geoengineering activities are currently taking place in New Zealand. In accordance with the OIA, I request the following information regarding all claims, public correspondence, and internal investigative or evaluative work relating to geoengineering in New Zealand since 1 January 2005
Public Correspondence and Claims
The total number of complaints, reports, emails, and messages received from the public relating to allegations, concerns, or evidence of geoengineering occurring in New Zealand.
Copies of all correspondence, emails, messages, and any evidence provided by the public regarding geoengineering for the requested timeframe.
Investigative Actions and Assessments:
Detailed outline of any and all investigations, research, studies, or assessments conducted by the Ministry relating to claims of geoengineering.
The names or descriptions of the team(s) or staff units responsible for investigating or evaluating such claims, and their terms of engagement or reference.
Any documentation or results from environmental testing (e.g., rainwater, soil tests, air-quality etc etc) connected to claims or suspicions of geoengineering.
All reports, findings, or analyses produced by or for the Ministry that address, refute, or otherwise relate to public claims of geoengineering in New Zealand.
Internal Communications and Decision-Making:
Copies of any internal memos, meeting notes, email correspondence, or other communications between Ministry staff relating to geoengineering claims and/or the Ministry’s responses to these claims.
Any documentation explaining the Ministry’s rationale or criteria for choosing to investigate, or not investigate, specific complaints or claims regarding geoengineering.
I request that this information covers the period from 1 January 2005 to the present day. If any part of my request is likely to be refused under the Act, I ask that you consider releasing any information that can be made available.
If the requested information is held in electronic form, I prefer to receive it in that format.
Can you also provide process documents, steps taken when environmental complaints and made by the public and how you have satisfied these requirements following complaints of this nature.
Yours faithfully,
Chris

Dear OIA,
Okay so just confirming - MFE has complaints going back to the early 2000's - repeated denials that this practice are occurring yet no evidence to refute these claims?
Please provide internal process documents MFE must follow when environmental complaints are made
There is ample evidence to suggest the "environment" is being ruined by this practice including but not limited to
- visual aspect of skies
- constant trails
- haze that blocks the sun
- the number of trees that are down across the country as the chemicals destroy there root systems
- reduction in the number of bees that is being reported on
- zombie fish in Dargaville
- soil fertility
- Particulate matter and air quality
- Health issues
- Food quality
All of the above should be in MFE's remit however you fail to "investigate" despite ample evidence from the public disclosing this is going on. Why do we fund you with our taxes when you appear to be negligent in your duties?!
Yours sincerely,
Chris McCashin

Dear OIA,
You state you have “no evidence” that is occurring
But you have no evidence that it is not occurring either
I have asked for evidence you have that “refutes” this practice is occurring
I provided a list of a number of things that are evidence this is potentially going on - you have no soil samples, water samples, atmospheric samples to prove the opposite
So if you are not the agency that is in charge of ensuring our environment is free from contamination then who is and maybe there is no need for MFE?!
Who in our regulatory agencies would have done rainwater, soil. Atmospheric testing to give the public confidence it isn’t going on?
Because there is ample evidence confirming this practice has been ongoing for some time and every regulatory agency that is asked appears to be complicit, hiding their involvement or incompetent / lazy to do the right thing and give the public confidence you guys are not caught in another lie.
As it stands at the moment you can’t refute the claims by saying it. Please provide the evidence.
And if you do not have the evidence please state - MFE is not aware however we have not tested rainwater, soils etc etc and tell me the regulatory agency that will either do the tests or hold the information.
Yours sincerely,
Chris McCashin

Ministry for the Environment
Kia ora Chris,
Thank you for your further correspondence regarding your request for official information.
As we explained in our earlier response, geoengineering is not recognised as an environmental issue under New Zealand law, so it falls outside of the Ministry’s responsibilities. Under section 31 of the Environment Act 1986, the Ministry’s functions are primarily advisory.
The Ministry has already responded to your request in detail, addressing the relevant points.
We would like to inform you that further correspondence on the same matter will not result in additional or changed responses.
