Refusal under Section 9(2)(a)
Thank you for your request for information, received on 22 September 2025,
in which you sought:

* The number of recorded incidents of sexual harassment involving
students in the SNU in 2023.

Decision on Request

We have carefully considered your request. We have decided to refuse your
request for the information specified above.

Grounds for Refusal

The information you have requested is being withheld under Section 9(2)(a)
of the [Official Information Act 1982], which provides a good reason for
withholding information if the withholding is necessary to protect the
privacy of natural persons.

The disclosure of the requested information would constitute an
unwarranted invasion of privacy.

Public Interest Consideration

In line with the requirements of the Act, we have considered whether the
public interest in disclosure of the requested information outweighs the
need to protect privacy. We acknowledge the principle of public
transparency; however, we have determined that in this instance, the
public interest in release does not clearly outweigh the strong and
necessary protection of privacy afforded by Section 9(2)(a).

Right of Review

If you are not satisfied with this decision, you have the right, under
Section 28 of the [Official Information Act 1982], to make a complaint to
the Ombudsman for an investigation and review of this decision.

information in question is not personal information about an
identifiable individual. It pertains to statistical data about
incidents, and the requests were essentially for the numbers. These
statistics should be able to be provided without identifying any
