International travel undertaken by Principal of Cambridge Primary School
Ian Sinclair made this Official Information request to Cambridge School
This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Ian Sinclair to read recent responses and update the status.
From: Ian Sinclair
Dear Cambridge Primary School,
Please provide details of all international travel undertaken by Mike Pettit during his time as Principal (2008 to today) where either external funding (including for example (but not limited to) from the Ministry of Education, a not-for- profit organisation or a combination of external grants) or school funding (including but not limited to from the school board, or any special funding from the School’s budget, or other school allowances) financed all or part of the trip.
Specifically please confirm:
1. Dates of travel
2. Destination(s)
3. Stated objective, purpose, rationale of the trip.
3. Amount of funding, and a breakdown of how it was allocated/spent
4. Confirmation of any family member(s) accompanying Mike on the same trip, including details of any funding assistance which they may have benefited from
5. A copy of any report, summary or other documentation to confirm how funds were used, outcomes from the trip and value to the community.
6. Where this is on the public record for the school community, and a link to or copy of such notification.
If you can provide this faster than the maximum 20 day period, that would be much appreciated.
Yours faithfully,
Ian Sinclair
From: Ian Sinclair
Dear Cambridge School,
By law, you were supposed to have replied to me with an answer to my Official Information request no later than 29 August 2025. I have received no response from you, which means that you are in breach of the legislation, as you have not responded back to me in time. Your response is now more than one week overdue.
It's also incredibly disappointing and concerning.
As you know, this query relates to Mr Pettit, who as Principal runs the school, so this would have been brought to his attention soon after I sent my OIA request via this website. I would have thought that he wouldn't want an organisation he is running to be in breach of the very clear requirements of the Official Information Act?
Please reply urgently, via this platform, by close of business (say 6pm latest) Monday 8th September, with the information I asked for, which is no doubt very easy to verify and put in a return email. This would be 7 working days (or 11 calendar days) past the deadline.
Failure to provide answers to these questions will lead me to take next steps, which will likely include both the Ombudsman and the media, as my only resort.
Yours faithfully,
Ian Sinclair
PS This Official Information Act request is independent of any other request I have made recently, and is the only request I have made to Cambridge School thus far.
From: Kate Paine
Cambridge School
Dear Mr Sinclair,
Thank you for your email dated 8 September regarding your Official
Information Act request.
We were under the impression that the timeframe for responding had been
extended by 20 working days, based on correspondence we received from the
Ministry of Education. We now understand that this extension is related to
a separate request made directly to the Ministry, and not to your request
to Cambridge Primary School.
We sincerely apologise for this misunderstanding and for the delay in our
response. We recognise the importance of meeting our obligations under the
Official Information Act and regret any frustration this has caused.
We had started gathering the requested information but haven't completed
this, however we are now giving your request our immediate attention and
will provide you with the information you have requested as soon as
possible.
Also I need to make you aware that the school board elections have almost
closed and I am not standing for re-election, therefore after Wednesday
17th September you will be communicating with the incoming chair of
Cambridge Primary School.
Kind regards, Kate Paine
Cambridge Primary School Board of Trustees, Chair
From: Ian Sinclair
Dear Kate
Yes, correct. This is a separate request and should be very straightforward to answer from the school's records including financial records amd board minutes.
The information is now seriously overdue, in breach of the Act, so I would expect a transparent and full response from the school swiftly please.
Please confirm by return.
Yours sincerely,
Ian Sinclair
From: Kate Dye
