Information on fixed-site ocean temperature data (sampling < 3h) within Canterbury region

From: RC
Dear Canterbury Regional Council,
I am a Master of Science student in Marine Science. I am seeking information on whether Canterbury Regional Council (Environment Canterbury) holds any water temperature data collected by sensors fixed in place (for example, moorings, buoys, seafloor instruments, wharf sensors, or ship-berth loggers) within New Zealand’s Exclusive Economic Zone, particularly within the Canterbury region.
If such datasets exist, please advise:
• The sampling frequency or interval between measurements (e.g., minutes or hours);
• The geographic location(s) or area(s) where the sensors are deployed.
I am not requesting copies of the data themselves; I simply wish to know whether the data exist and, if so, the sampling rate and geographic coverage, along with any available metadata.
Yours faithfully,
Logan

ECan does not generally operate or hold data from fixed oceanographic sensors such as moorings, buoys, seafloor instruments, or ship-berth loggers beyond the territorial sea (i.e., within the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), which extends from 12 to 200 nautical miles offshore). That responsibility typically falls under central government agencies, such as:
NIWA (National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research) - the main agency collecting oceanic and coastal temperature and oceanographic data
Maritime New Zealand or port authorities (for wharf and berth sensors)
Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) - for hydrographic information
Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) - for some fisheries and marine monitoring
Have you tried these agencies?
