Dear Land Information New Zealand,
I am a Master of Science student in Marine Science. I am seeking information on whether Land Information New Zealand holds any water temperature data collected by sensors fixed in place (for example, moorings, buoys or loggers) within New Zealand’s Exclusive Economic Zone. If such datasets exist, please advise:
• The sampling frequency or interval between measurements (e.g., minutes or hours); and
• The geographic location(s) or area(s) where the sensors are deployed.
I am not requesting copies of the data themselves; I simply wish to know whether the data exists and, if so, the sampling rate and geographic coverage.

Thank you for your official information request received on 28 July 2025.
Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) does not hold water temperature data collected by sensors such as moorings, buoys, or loggers within New Zealand's Exclusive Economic Zone. LINZ's primary focus is on land information, surveying, and mapping services.
While LINZ collects sea level data through tide gauges for geodetic and surveying purposes, we do not collect water temperature data from these stations.
You may wish to contact NIWA and / or councils for information on water temperature.
