Update regards vacant sections Merton/Rimutaka/Ruahine Street, Upper Hutt
Fraser made this Official Information request to Minister for Social Housing
This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Fraser to read a recent response and update the status.
From: Fraser
Dear Minister for Social Housing,
I'd appreciate if you could provide an update as to what is planned
for the vacant Housing New Zealand land located on
Merton/Rimutaka/Merton Street, Upper Hutt formerly occupied by
Housing New Zealand Flats and additionally the block of flats located at 37-43 Ruahine Street.
The land has been vacant for some time now and it would be good to
see this space utilised (be it by a private or public developer or
both). Personally I would not however like to see high density
housing in this position - it would be ideal for stand alone single
households.
Could you please provide copies of any documents, emails,
correspondence, meeting minutes, plans, ministerial briefings or other documents which are pertinent to the intended future use of these particular properties
which date from the time of the previous building's demolition to
now.
Yours faithfully,
Fraser

Minister for Social Housing
Thank you for your email addressed to the Hon Paula Bennett. She
appreciates you taking the time to contact her.
All correspondence, including email, is entered into our mail tracking

to the high number received makes it impossible to provide an equally
instant response from the Minister.
Minister Bennett will read your views but a response beyond this
acknowledgement may not be sent.

Dear P Bennett (MIN),
Apologies, there is an error within the text of my original request which should have read Merton/Rimutaka/Ruahine Street.

Dear Graham,
Thankyou for your response.
Could you please redact any parties names which may be commercially sensitive, financial figures, or matters relating to negotiation and then therefore release the document?
Has the additional request of any documents relating to 37-43 Ruahine Street which differs from previous request actually been considered? I fail to see how there are no documents relating to this building given that there is currently building work underway (ie the contract has been let) and building work would be pertinent to the future use of the building.
Yours sincerely,
Fraser

Dear Graham Parkin,
Thankyou for your response.
I note in terms of the redacted version of documentation 20 working days from August 21 would be 18 September 2015.
The construction drawings request dates from the time of my original request on July 28 2015 and is therefore not a new OIA request. However I accept it would take a few days to gather this information together.
Thanks,
Fraser

From: Fraser
Dear HNZC Correspondence,
I note from the story which appears in the Dominion Post today that you have now released further information regards this land. I support the your decision regards the land and hope that whatever is built/developed is low density single residential in nature and a positive outcome for the neighbourhood.
However I would note that I live in the neighbourhood and did not receive a notification letter you indicated in the article was sent to the neighbourhood dated 12 May - so that confuses/concerns me somewhat.
I would also note that this would indicate there was/is information which should have been released.
I note that the other portion of my request remains unanswered - therefore at this stage I will leave my ombudsman complaint lodged 2/10/2015 to progress.
Yours sincerely,
Fraser
