MoH and YouTube misinformation on Covid 19

Erika Whittome made this Official Information request to Ministry of Health

Response to this request is long overdue. By law Ministry of Health should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.

From: Erika Whittome

Dear Ministry of Health,
I refer you to https://fyi.org.nz/request/27311-moh-s-w...

In this previous OIA, is an agreement with YouTube that says:
On Maps, our policies prohibit misinformation about prevention, transmission and treatment services, as well as allegations that an individual contracted COVID-19 at a particular location. These types of contributed content will be removed.

Misinformation Definition
————————————
Would you please share the criteria, definitions, keywords, meta data tags, handbooks and any manuals on this “misinformation” which is for the disease’s prevention and treatment services.

I am requesting all the information on how MoH and YouTube determined whether prevention and treatment that google had purview of was deemed “misinformation”.

Yours faithfully,

Erika Whittome

So the MOH calls something 'misinformation' yet either refuses or does not have a definition of what they deem as 'misinformation'? I'm not sure which is worse.

Dear OIA Requests,

You have supplied a definition of "misinformation" from the Oxford dictionary about something being true or false.

However this definition is different from Youtube's one. Youtube's one mentions a "consensus", not true or false. It also mentions community standards.

I will share an example, I shared that Medsafe don't know if the vaccine will reduce transmission which was taken down as "misinformation" despite Medsafe publishing this statement here https://web.archive.org/web/202106300144...

Is it fair to say that the MoH has no definition of "Misinformation" and that this function was delegated to Youtube? Therefore the requested information does not exist or is not held within the MoH?

Yours sincerely,

Erika Whittome
