Cooper O'Neil made this Official Information request to University of Auckland
The request was refused by University of Auckland.
      From: Cooper O'Neil

    Dear University of Auckland,
Under the Official Information Act 1982, I request the following information:
All email correspondence between representatives of the Faculty of Engineering and Apple Inc. This includes any emails exchanged with addresses ending in @apple.com.
A detailed list of all meetings or events organised by Apple or held within University of Auckland facilities involving both the Faculty of Engineering and representatives from Apple. Please include:
- The names of the events
- Dates and locations
- Names of the University of Auckland and Apple representatives involved
I look forward to your timely response as prescribed by the Official Information Act.
Yours faithfully,
Cooper O'Neil

    Dear Cooper,
I refer to your request of 26 August 2024. Under section 12(2) of the OIA, requests for official information must specify the official information requested with due particularity. You have not provided a time period for your request. Once you have specified the information requested with due particularity, the University will respond as soon as reasonably practicable, within the OIA’s maximum time limit of 20 working days, unless that time limit is extended under the OIA.
Further, your request has been drafted very broadly. It is not clear whether you are aware of any specific project or item of work about which University staff in the Faculty of Engineering may have corresponded or met with Apple staff/representatives, but unless you narrow your request it is likely that we would refuse it under the substantial collation and research ground. In particular, requests for "all correspondence" between large or vaguely defined groups of persons are very difficult for the University to action.
Yours sincerely,
Landon Watt

    Dear Landon Watt,
Jan 2023 to Present please.
I highly doubt that the Faculty has that many direct emails with @apple.com domains in the last year or so.
Yours sincerely,
Cooper O'Neil

    Dear Cooper,

I refer to your email of 26 August 2024 and your request of 23 September
 2024. The University's response follows.

"All email correspondence between representatives of the Faculty of
Engineering and Apple Inc. This includes any emails exchanged with
 addresses ending in @apple.com.

A detailed list of all meetings or events organised by Apple or held
within University of Auckland facilities involving both the Faculty of
Engineering and representatives from Apple. Please include:

"Jan 2023 to Present please"

My email of 23 September 2024 stated that it is not clear whether you are
aware of any specific project or item of work about which University staff
in the Faculty of Engineering may have corresponded or met with Apple
staff/representatives, and warned you that unless you narrow your request
it is likely that we would refuse it under the substantial collation and
research ground. In particular, requests for "all correspondence" between
large or vaguely defined groups of persons are very difficult for the
University to action. You failed to narrow your request. Your request is
refused under section 18(f) of the Official Information Act 1982, as the
information requested cannot be provided without substantial collation or
research. Neither extending the time limit, imposing a charge, or
consulting with you would remove the reason for this refusal. You have the
right to make a complaint to an Ombudsman if you are dissatisfied with
 this response.

Yours sincerely,
