On 25 July 2024, we received the following request for information from
 you, transferred by Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA), under
 the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA):
 
The names of private companies contracted to operate and maintain of
 vehicle surveillance equipment as approved under the [1]Land Transport
 (Approved Vehicle Surveillance Equipment) Notice 2023 or the [2]Land
 Transport (Approved Vehicle Surveillance Equipment) Notice 2021.   
 
Staff have confirmed that all Christchurch City Council owned CCTV devices
 that are utilised to monitor road utilisation are operated either by
 Council Staff or Staff from the New Zealand Police. They are also all
 maintained by Council approved contractors.
 
No third party, private companies are employed to operate and maintain
 said CCTV devices. This is also the case for parking and lane enforcement
 cameras.
 
It should be noted that Visual Networks maintain these cameras, but do not
 operate them.
 
For this reason, we have decided to refuse your request under the
 following section of the LGOIMA:
o 17(e) – the information requested does not exist or cannot be found
 
You have the right to ask the Ombudsman to investigate and review our
 decision. Complaints can be sent by email to

Publication of responses to LGOIMA requests
Please note: our LGOIMA responses may be published on the Christchurch
 City Council website a month after they have been responded to, with
