Moreen Taylor made this Official Information request to Auckland Transport

The request was partially successful.

From: Moreen Taylor

Dear Auckland Transport,

Why, when Kaipara hills road only has 2 possible entry/ exit points, one which is a single lane wooden bridge, western end of Kaipara hills road, which after heavy rain goes under water, has the slip which caused the lane at the eastern end, to be reduced in width to one lane not been repaired and 2 permanent signs have now been erected stating "single lane".

Yours faithfully,

Moreen Taylor

Dear CustomerLiaison (AT),

After this weekends rain , because the road has been reduced to a single lane, the heavy trucks using this road are driving closer to the inside bank and appear to have cracked the underground pipe and the road is developing a significant slump in the road. the reason I chose this format is because this road is the only access to state highway one & Warkworth and if we lose it, we will have to go via state highway 16 and that will take approximately 1 hour. this is assuming the school bus or anyone of the commercial trucks using this road so no go over the edge and someone dies.

Yours sincerely,

Moreen Taylor

Dear CustomerLiaison (AT),

Last I heard back they were still looking into this, is there a time frame, as I would have thought someone would have had to look at the slip before posting signs on it? otherwise someone with no qualifications can be making decisions in respect to work which should be approved / declined by a qualified roading engineer. Is there no procedure in place for roads which have been compromised? What if the road slips even further when the school bus is on it, who then is the responsible person for health and safety purposes?

Yours sincerely,

Moreen Taylor

Dear Moreen,

Customer Case Reference: CAS-561470-V0V2T3

Subject: Kaipara Hills Road

Thank you for your query in regards to Kaipara Hills Road in Kaipara
Flats.

We wish to advise that the area has been inspected by the Area Engineer
and the site has been added to the list of future potential projects.
However there are no plans to carry out repairs during the 2015/16
financial year.

Signage has been put up to notify road users that the carriageway narrows
and we can assure you that we are continuing to monitor the site in the
meantime.

Thank you for your patience while we looked into this matter.

Kind Regards,
