Dear Auckland Transport,

Does the radar speed sign on Lake Road Devonport near Seabreeze Road record the speeds of passing vehicles?

If it does could you please provide details of the speeds recorded. I would like to know the number of vehicles in 5 km/h increments for the most recent and longest period possible (i.e. since the sign was first installed if possible).

Is it also possible to get the data for different time periods so I can tel whether the sign has reduced speeds over time?

Something like this:
<=45 km/h 50000
46 to 50 km/h 25000
51 to 55 km/h 20000
56 to 60 km/h 3000
61 to 65 km/h 1000
66 to 70 km/h 500
71 to 75 km/h 250
76 to 80 km/h 125
81 to 85 km/h 75

96 to 100 km/h 15
100 Km/h + 5
Total 100000

Thanks for the reply. Is this data not routinely collected when the sign is maintained? Presumably the sign has some sort of regular maintenance program even if it just to check it is still operational.

Dear Chris

 

Thank you for your response regarding speed sign information.

These electronic speed signs use radar technology to display the speed of
approaching cars back to the driver. The main purpose for this type of
sign is to inform and alert drivers of their current speed.

Depending on the frequency of the sign being activated due to over
speeding, all information is stored for 7 days.

Historical data from the sign on Lake Road is not available as it is not
normal practice to download this speed information during maintenance of
the sign as it is not required from the contractor unless it is asked for,
for road safety upgrades.

Preventative maintenance is done every six month and on this particular
sign which is labelled 62 (C/R Lake road and Sea breeze road), maintenance
was carried out approximately 3 months ago.

When preventative maintenance is carried out we only check the sign for
any deformities, batteries, solar panel and recalibration of the radar.

We hope that this information clarifies the issues you have raised.
