We cannot supply the Google Transit Feed Specification Realtime bus trip
information (the Information) you have requested.

 

Our system provider has advised that to do so would stress the system and
could severely impact users of the tools available to the public that
display real time information, such as the Transit app and electronic bus
stops, information screens, etc which are critical services.

 

The Information you requested is not provided to ‘some private entities’
as you suggest.

 

As already noted, data taken from the Information is provided to the
public via the Transit app, at electronic bus stops, and on information
screens, etc and as such is already publicly available.

 

Your request for the Google Transit Feed Specification Realtime bus trip
information is refused under the Local Government Official Information and
Meetings Act section 7(2)(h), (i), and (j):

7 Other reasons for withholding official information

(1)          Where this section applies, good reason for withholding
official information exists, for the purpose of [1]section 5, unless, in
the circumstances of the particular case, the withholding of that
information is outweighed by other considerations which render it
desirable, in the public interest, to make that information available.

(2)          Subject to [2]sections 6, [3]8, and [4]17, this section
applies if, and only if, the withholding of the information is necessary
to—

(h) enable any local authority holding the information to carry out,
without prejudice or disadvantage, commercial activities; or

(i) enable any local authority holding the information to carry on,
without prejudice or disadvantage, negotiations (including commercial and
industrial negotiations); or

(j) prevent the disclosure or use of official information for improper
gain or improper advantage.

 

You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of
