Dear New Zealand Police,
According to a book on the murders of Jeanette and Harvey Crewe that was published last year (The Crewe Murders, by Kirsty Johnson and James Hollings, Massey University Press 2023): “Based on markings she ["she" being Sharon Fowler, senior forensic scientist at the National Ballistics Intelligence Service of the Greater Manchester Police] observed on the base of the fatal bullets, and comparing them to markings on all the bullets test-fired by the DSIR from the collected rifles, she found two rifles that could have fired the fatal bullets: Arthur Thomas's, and a .22 Browning pump-action rifle belonging to Arthur Eglinton, a Pahiatua farmer, which had somehow been picked up in the police sweep.”
65-odd rifles were checked by police - 64 from within a 5k radius of Pukekawa, and one, belonging to Arthur Eglinton, from Pahiatua, 500k away.
I would like to see any documentation that was gathered in regard to Arthur Eglinton

Dear Ministerial Services,
Arthur Eglinton, a Pahiatua farmer, was the owner of one of only two rifles found by an expert witness in the Crewe Homicide Investigation Report (2014) to have been capable of firing the bullets that killed Harvey and Jeanette Crewe.
One rifle belonged to Arthur Allen Thomas.
The other to Arthur Donald Eglinton.
I am seeking information from the police as to why Arthur Eglinton became part of the investigation.
Of the 65-or-so rifles examined by police, 64 came from within a 5k radius of Pukekawa.
The 65th - Eglinton's - came from Pahiatua.
Harvey Crewe - like Eglinton - grew up in Pahiatua.
The information I have received does not explain why Eglinton was approached in the first place.
Is it possible to supply that information?

Dear Ministerial Services,
I’m curious why a rifle belonging to Arthur Donald Eglinton, of Pahiatua, was examined by police in relation to a double homicide that occured in Pukekawa, several hundred kilometres away.
Of the 65 rifles examined, 64 were from within a 5k radius of the crime scene in Pukekawa, which is toughly between Auckland and Hamilton, and one - Donaldson’s - was from Pahiatua in the Wairarapa. Why was that, does anyone know?
