Covid Vaccines Administered per Batch

Catherine Jamieson made this Official Information request to Ministry of Health

Response to this request is long overdue. By law Ministry of Health should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.

From: Catherine Jamieson

Dear Ministry of Health,

I write because the Ministry of Health regulates and monitors the health system to ensure it performs well and delivers better health outcomes for everyone.  https://www.health.govt.nz/about-ministr...

The response to a request for number of doses administered in New Zealand for each batch follows (6 October 2023 to T Lee HNZ00025554 and HNZ00025920):

'We have assessed what would be involved in creating this information and our initial review has identified that there is significant human error in the data input, which would prevent us from providing a complete dataset in response your request. To create a partial response would require Te Whatu Ora to divert personnel from their core duties and allocate extra time to complete this task. The diversion of these resources would impair Te Whatu Ora’s ability to carry out our other core functions. As such, your request for this information is declined under 18(e) and 18(f), being that parts of the information does not exist and to provide the remaining information would require substantial collation. I have considered whether fixing a charge for the supply of the information or extending
the timeframe for response would enable Te Whatu Ora to respond. I do not consider that either option would remove the impact that supplying the information would have on our other operations. '

H202200092 indicates that the Ministry of Health analysts would have access to this information in that it is stated the Ministry has robust systems in place for monitoring adverse events following immunisation (AEFIs). Without number of doses administered per batch, any investigation of issues within a specific batch would not be robust.

Please provide the number of doses of Covid vaccines administered per batch (i.e. number of doses administered per manufacturer provided batch identifier).

In the event that Ministry of Health deems to transfer this request to another agency please clearly state the reason for the referral and provide proof or detailed reasoning that the alternative entity can answer the OIA in the required statutory timeframe.

Yours faithfully,

Catherine Jamieson
