Kia ora Chris,

 

On behalf of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment I
acknowledge your email of 7 February 2024 requesting under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act), the following:

 

‘Dear Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment, How many North Korea
defectors living in New Zealand. If a North Korea person escaped and come
to New Zealand will they be sent back to North Korea or are they welcome
here ??’

 

We will endeavour to respond to your request as soon as possible, and no
later than 6 March 2024, being 20 working days after the day your request
was received. If we are unable to respond to your request by then, we will
notify you of an extension of that timeframe.  If you have any enquiries

Are you  wanting us to provide you with the total number of refugee claims
from North Korea (as you mention defectors below) as this would be refugee
data.

 

We would appreciate if you could get back to us by COP 28 February 2024.
