Pigeon Island Hut

Dear Queenstown-Lakes District Council,

Could you please advise what process has been made regarding the previously privately occupied, publically owned, hut on Pigeon Island in regards to:
1) When members of the public will be able to access this hut
2) What costs will be involved in members of the public accessing the hut
3) Any exclusion periods for which members of the public can access the hut
4) How members of the public will be able to access this hut

Could you also please provide any correspondence between which relates to this specific hut since April of 2023 between internal staff and any of the previous private occupiers or their representatives.

Dear Information Request,

The request was for “what progress” has been made. Are you saying that no progress has been made relating to the hut?

Your response states that’s there has been no correspondence with the former occupiers since September 2022. Previous requests have shown this to be incorrect.

Why are there such issues with complying with your legal obligations pursuant to LGOIMA? These series of requests have been exceptionally difficult and unnecessarily complicated in order to get public information.

I would appreciate an urgent response

Apologies for the statement made in our response stating that "there has been no correspondence with the former occupiers since September 2022" we would like to correct this and inform you that no correspondence has been exchanged since April 2023 (not Sept 22).

And as advised earlier in our response we’ll be in touch once the information is available in relation to the other questions you have raised.

There was a typographical error (process rather than progress) in your original request that may have contributed to their confusion about the information you were seeking. You may wish to clarify what types of information you are wanting to answer your request e.g. internal emails, memos etc

All correspondence captures memos, internal emails etc. please read prior requests in which you will see information has been drop fed, withheld, etc. the QLDC is not complying with their obligations here which can be seen by some of their internal emails where they discuss trying to subvert the requirements of LGOIMA

Kia ora Wayne,

Thanks for your patience.

We have scoped the work that is needed to make the hut compliant for public use. Unfortunately, we don’t have an exact date when this work will commence as there are few factors to consider like transportation to and from the island, isolating the work area, protection of the surrounding landscape, community notifications, harbourmaster approvals etc.

We are happy to keep you informed once further progress has been made.
