Request for official information – PARTIAL RELEASE OF INFORMATION
Thank you for your request for official information dated 24 August 2023. You requested the following
information from Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC / Council):
Could you please advise what process has been made regarding the previously privately occupied,
publicly owned, hut on Pigeon Island regarding:
1. When members of the public will be able to access this hut
2. What costs will be involved in members of the public accessing the hut
3. Any exclusion periods for which members of the public can access the hut
4. How members of the public will be able to access this hut
In addition, could you also please provide any correspondence relates to this specific hut since
April of 2023 between QLDC staff and any of the previous private occupiers or their
representatives.
QLDC Response
Please see Council’s response below:
1. When members of the public will be able to access this hut
• This is unknown at this stage. However, we can inform you once the hut is accessible for the
members of the public.
2. What costs will be involved in members of the public accessing the hut
• We have not made a firm decision yet. However, this will be known to the members of the
public once we have the final decision.
3. Any exclusion periods for which members of the public can access the hut
• Yes, in case if the hut undergoes any major repairs or maintenance.
4. How members of the public will be able to access this hut
• This is still not confirmed and will be able to advise once we have the booking options in place.
Please note we’ll be in touch once the information is available for the above questions.
In addition, could you also please provide any correspondence relates to this specific hut since April of
2023 between QLDC staff and any of the previous private occupiers or their representatives.
• Last formal correspondence with previous occupiers was back in September 2022. No internal
correspondence has been exchanged since then.
Decision to withhold information requested
We consider it is necessary to withhold this information on the basis of the following grounds:
• s 17(e) - that the document alleged to contain the information requested does not exist or,
despite reasonable efforts to locate it, cannot be found.
Section 17(e) of the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA). Section
17(e) of the LGOIMA provides that the document alleged to contain the information requested does
not exist or, despite reasonable efforts to locate it, cannot be found. In this case, we were unable to
find any correspondence as there were no emails exchanged after September 2022 and therefore
have to decline this request.
