Enrolment details : Maori Descent
Grace Haden made this Official Information request to Electoral Commission
The request was successful.
From: Grace Haden
Dear Electoral Commission,
I note that on the enrolment details there is now the provison of Maori descent
On the rear of the form it states My New Zealand maori descent should read : and gives two options either that you are or you are not of maori descent
this requires a person to decide which side of hte segregation line they are on and this classification could be seen as racist as it leaves no room for a person to say that they prefer not to disclose their ancestory or choose between the larger portion of their herritage or the diluted blood line of generations ago
Please provide by OIA all documents which consider the right to privacy of a persons choice of ethniticity much in the same way people are give the right to choose their gender or what they identify as
And Can a person of non maori descent but who identifies as maori be on the maori role .
what consideration has been given to the right of a person to be simply considered to be a New Zealander and not state their ehniticity or ancestory .
Yours faithfully,
Grace Haden
