From: Projects (AT)
Hi Tom
The works being undertaken are stabilisation of an historic and ongoing
slip affecting a section of Great North Rd at Waterview.
The slip has caused considerable damage to the shared pathway at the
location, making them unusable and poses a high risk for damaging a
section of the road. Failure of a section of the road would cause major
traffic congestion and add considerable cost to fix. The scope of work for
the project is:
1. To create room for site establishment, access for heavy
vehicles and safety zones by shifting all four traffic lanes to the west,
followed by installing fences and barriers around the works site.
2. Demolish path and retaining wall then level the site.
3. Construct in-ground slip stabilisation concrete panels.
4. Reinstate the retaining wall and path, repair road lane and
kerb etc.
Note, all stabilisation works are off road to minimise disruption. All
four vehicle lanes will be kept open throughout.
The impacts wile undertaking the works include:
• Re-alignment of the traffic lanes.
• Temporary relocation of two bus stops.
• Closure of the Herdman St intersection.
• Closure of the right turn into Oakley Rd
• Closure of a section of pathway requiring users to cross the
road at Alford St and back again at Herdman St.
The impact on travel times and bus services should be minimal.
Project duration is six to nine months with completion targeted for
February 2024.
Kind regards
Sandy Webb | Project and Business Interface Lead
