Dear Wellington City Council,
The Architectural Centre is a volunteer organisation made up of professionals and non-professionals who seek to promote good design of the built environment. Incorporated in 1946, the Centre has a long and proud tradition of doing just this.
The Centre requests information about the Council, and its subsidiaries, responses to incidents of death and injury from falls higher than 1m on the Wellington Waterfront (between the Railway station and Chaffers Marina) since 1987. We ask for this information from Wellington City Council and its subsidiary organisation(s) including Wellington Waterfront Limited (originally Lambton Harbour Management Limited).
Under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 there is a requirement for the Council and its subsidiary organisation(s) to respond to incidents of harm in the workplace on "the principle that workers and other persons should be given the highest level of protection against harm to their health, safety, and welfare from hazards and risks."
Specifically, please provide:
1: The register of waterfront hazards
2: Reports on health and safety at the waterfront commissioned by Wellington City Council and Wellington Waterfront Limited (originally Lambton Harbour Management Limited)
3: Accident reports about people who have been drowned, killed or injured as a result of falls from heights greater than 1.0m at the waterfront
4: Documents about council and subsidiary organisation(s) employees' responsibility as 'Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking' (PCBU) for safety from falling under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015
5: Communications with WorkSafe New Zealand about safety from falling at the waterfront
6: Any other safety improvements recommended to prevent falls from heights greater than 1.0m at the waterfront
Yours faithfully,
The Architectural Centre Inc.
