Harwood Wilson made this Official Information request to Otago Boys' High School
The request was successful.
From: Harwood Wilson
Dear Otago Boys' High School,
Please provide the following information regarding the OBHS formal as soon as possible.
1. Has the school considered the modern changes and current situations of it's students relationships or does it just consider that students should stick to "old fashioned ways"
2. Does the School consider stating that there should be "No doubling up of singles" to get around the no singles tickets, which potentially excludes same sex couples from that school and if not how do you intend of differentiating between same sex couples and those who are not, and what procedure have you in place to ensure no anti homophobic action is taken.
3. Has the School considered that not allowing singles from the same school to "double up" will exclude same sex couples, as they might be subject to bullying, please provide a response detailing exactly what considerations have been made regarding this.
4. Please provide the Schools policy on how staff should act on same sex issues and also provide a bullying policy.
5. Does the school consider that as you are an all boys school, some students may not have outside opportunity's to meet other girls, and this will discriminate against them.
6. Does the school consider that some students maybe socially unpopular, or may not have connections outside of their own school and that your "old fashioned ways" statement will actually worsen their social skills as they are being excluded.
7. What advise have you received from outside professionals regarding this issue.
8. Please provide copies from internal meeting minutes with either staff or students regarding this issue.
9. Please give a reason why you are still enforcing the "Single Ticket Rule" as per your statement "We insists on boys bringing a partner from outside the school to make it finically viable" as the budget has now been meet.
10. The statement "We insists on boys bringing a partner from outside the school" is clearly extremally homophobic, please explain how this is not!
Please be aware of your obligations under the Official Information Act.
Yours faithfully,
Harwood Wilson
