On 5 May 2023, the first and fourth parts of your request were transferred
to the Government Communications Security Bureau for response.

 

This email is to advise that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade
will need to extend the time limit for responding to the remainder of your
request by 25 working days, to 26 June 2023. This is because consultations
necessary to make a decision on your request are such that a proper
response cannot reasonably be made within the original time frame (section
15A(1)(b) of the OIA refers).

We are writing concerning your OIA request of 20 April 2023 which askes
for:

 

- Any records, including correspondence, reports, memos, or briefings,
that discuss or relate to the use of Hikvision cameras in New Zealand;

- Any advice, assessments, or recommendations provided by MFAT to the New
Zealand government regarding the potential cybersecurity risks and links
to human rights abuses associated with Hikvision cameras;

- Any communications or engagement that MFAT has had with the Chinese
government or Hikvision regarding the use of Hikvision cameras in New
Zealand;

- Any information regarding the steps that the New Zealand government has
taken or plans to take to mitigate any potential cybersecurity risks
associated with the use of Hikvision cameras in New Zealand.

 

On 5 May 2023, the first and fourth parts of your request were transferred
to the Government Communications Security Bureau for response.

 

This email is to advise that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade
will need to extend the time limit for responding to the remainder of your
request by 25 working days, to 26 June 2023. This is because consultations
necessary to make a decision on your request are such that a proper
response cannot reasonably be made within the original time frame (section
15A(1)(b) of the OIA refers).

 

However, if this process is completed before 26 June 2023, the response
will be sent to you as soon as possible.
