John Wilson made this Official Information request to Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade
Currently waiting for a response from Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, they must respond promptly and normally no later than (details and exceptions).
From: John Wilson
Dear Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade,
I am writing to request information under the OIA concerning the case of Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya, who was abducted by the Israeli army in December 2024. Multiple reports suggest that Dr. Abu Safiya has been subjected to torture and other forms of physical and psychological abuse. His lawyer has indicated that he is being coerced into making false confessions related to crimes he did not commit.
Specifically, I would like to request the following information:
1. Any official communications, briefings, or reports from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) regarding the abduction and detention of Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya by Israeli authorities.
2. All communications between New Zealand and Israeli authorities concerning this matter.
3. Information on New Zealand’s involvement in advocating for Dr. Abu Safiya’s rights, including efforts to prevent torture and ensure due process.
Yours faithfully,
John Wilson
