Diversifying trade away from China towards the Quad

Adam Irish made this Official Information request to Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade

The request was partially successful.

From: Adam Irish

Dear Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade,

Given the People's Republic of China is increasingly acting in a provocative and increasing hostile manner in some of the following areas:

-Significantly expanding the aggressive capabilities of its armed forces
-Debt diplomacy to poorer countries
-Forcible suppression of Tibet peoples and culture
-Suppression and persecution of Uyghur peoples in Xinjiang internment camps
-Erosion and suppression of freedoms and democracy in Hong Kong
-Increased military incursions into Japan, South Korea and India
-Aggression and threats towards Taiwan
-Building military capability in South China Sea and ignoring international laws and conventions
-Fighting and occupying disputed parts of northern India
-Mass spying, copy right and intellectual property infringement
-Persecution of religious minorities such as Falun Gong and Christians

The People's Republic of China and its leadership increasingly appear to becoming an existential threat to peace and stability of the world and New Zealand's security and freedom. Accordingly I wish to request under the Official Information act the following information.
What steps are being taken to diversify our trade away from China and towards other democratic countries such as those countries, USA, India, Australia, and Japan in the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad) forum.

Yours faithfully,

Adam Irish
