This enquiry is on behalf of several open source communities which want to re-use the information contained in these datasets and also some of the publicly accessible information contained on two Kiwirail public websites based on the same GIS datasources. The websites concerned are
Kiwirail Network Map https://www.arcgis.com/apps/View/index.h...
Kiwirail Alcam Level Crossing Viewer https://gis.kiwirail.co.nz/maps/?viewer=...

In particular these communities (such as Open Street Maps NZ Community) are keen to improve the quality of their maps, however they are also very pedantic about license terms and descriptions. This is due to the reality of competing with large litigious commercial providers in online map production.
Is it possible for Kiwirail's Gis staff to
* Update the license terms displayed on each individual dataset at data.govt.nz
* consider whether appropriate to provide a license text file incorporated within the physical file(s) downloadable for each dataset
* provide the license information on each of the above mentioned websites.
