MBChB and BDS Entry Requirements for 2023

Rayner made this Official Information request to University of Otago

The request was successful.

From: Rayner

Dear University of Otago,

I am requesting entry threshold requirements for offers (both 1st and waitlisted, separately) into the professional programs of BDS (dentistry) and MBChB (medicine) from the Health Sciences First Year programme.
These requirements include:

- The threshold for all 5 sections of the UCAT for entry into both courses, specifying the threshold for each section of UCAT in terms of percentile and score.

- The 7 paper average minimum and median percentage for both courses for students who got these offers (1st and waitlisted) via the General pathway of HSFY. (not including the subcategories)

Yours faithfully,
Rayner

Further to my email to you of 22 December 2022 with our response to your information request of 25 November 2022, it has come to my attention that some of the data we provided to you was incorrect regarding the UCAT thresholds for the 2023 MB ChB programme - unfortunately we have communicated the thresholds the wrong way around. To clarify, where UCAT is used for entry, the correct thresholds for the 2023 MB ChB programme are as follows:

• Verbal Reasoning: threshold set at or above the 20th percentile
• Situational Judgement: threshold set above the lowest 10th percentile
• Scores for Decision Making, Quantitative Reasoning and Abstract Reasoning were not considered.

I apologise for any inconvenience or confusion this may have caused.

As noted to you in our response of 22 December 2022, we will be in touch with the remaining information you have requested once this information has been confirmed and is available.

Ngâ mihi
Kelsey

Further to our email dated 19 April 2023, it has come to our attention that a correction was also required for the information regarding the BDS programme.

Please find re-attached a copy of the letter sent to you on 19 April 2023 which also includes the correct information for both the MB ChB (which you have already received) and the BDS programmes for 2023. In both instances, we had provided the average minimum and the average median academic scores to receive an offer to be on the waitlist, rather than the average minimum and median academic scores to receive an offer from the waitlist to enter the programmes).

We sincerely apologise for any confusion this may have caused, and are happy to answer any further questions.

Ngā mihi
Kelsey
