Tangata Whenua made this Official Information request to Department of Internal Affairs
This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Tangata Whenua to read a recent response and update the status.
From: Tangata Whenua
Dear Department of Internal Affairs,
In April 2017 the Registrar General for Births, Deaths & Marriages, EILEEN FISHER told me that my daughter could not be named Her Majesty Queen Whiria II.
I requested confirmation that Her Majesty Queen Whiria II has not been registered to New Zealand Births, Deaths & Marriages (NZBDM). To this day no such confirmation has been provided.
(1) if Her Majesty Queen Whiria II has been registered to NZBDM without my knowledge or consent, please provide the documentation authorising you to do so.
(2) If Her Majesty Queen Whiria II has not been registered then please provide confirmation that Her Majesty Queen Whiria II has not been registered to NZBDM.
Yours faithfully,
Tangata Whenua

Tēnā koe,
Please be aware that making a request on the FYI website means that your request and the Department's response will be public.
To be able to give any information about your specific birth registration query, we would need to ask for information to confirm your identity, in order to identify registration information. We would be reluctant to do so via the FYI website, as this would result in your privacy information being publicly released.
I recommend contacting the Department directly using the Department's privacy email address [email address]

Tēnā koe,
Please carefully read this email. I will explain the issue here again.
For us to be able to answer your questions about your child's registration, we need to identify who you are, to be able to find your child's records. We also need to confirm your identity (via a drivers license or passport or similar) to be sure you genuinely are who you say you are and it is appropriate to release private information about your child to you.
If you make your request on the FYI platform - you'd be sharing your identity documents publicly (which puts you at risk of identity theft).
Please send a direct email to the Department at [DIA request email] in order for us to be able to assist you further with your questions while maintaining your privacy.
Thanks,
Michelle Reed (she/her)

Tēnā koe,
I understand from your email that you are seeking information from the Department of Internal Affairs (Department) about a birth registration. I must advise that the Department is unable to release information on a person to you as, subject to section 9(2)(a) of the Official Information Act 1982, we are required to protect the privacy of natural persons.
It is important for me to explain that access to information held in public registers is regulated by the Births, Deaths, Marriages, and Relationships Registration Act 1995 (BDMRRA). As such, if you would like to discuss or request information about a birth record, you will need to contact Births, Deaths and Marriages directly. You can reach them by phone on 0800 22 52 52 or email them at [email address]
Should you be interested, section 18 of the BDMRRA specifies the Acceptance of names. The BDMRRA is available to view online here, https://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/publ...
