Tçnâ koe Jai,

Thank you for your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the
Act) on 28 June 2022 for information relating to prescribed drugs in New
Zealand. Please find a response to your request below.

“I'd like data on 2016-2022 for the prescription rates of the top 250
most prescribed drugs by volume in NZ broken down by age group.”

Pharmaceuticals dispensing data is publicly available on the Ministry of
Health website at:
[1]www.health.govt.nz/publication/pharmaceutical-data-web-tool. Data can
be searched and filtered by year of dispensing, medicine (at chemical
formulation, chemical, therapeutic group level 2 and therapeutic group
level 3) and district health board where the individual was domiciled at
the time of dispensing or which funds the pharmacy. This web tool presents
data to the latest year for which data is available for publication. The
Ministry is currently updating the 2021 data and the 2022 data is not yet
available. Therefore, part of your request for 2021 and 2022 is refused
under section 18(g) as the information requested is not held by the
Ministry and there are no grounds for believing it is held by another
agency subject to the Act. If you are interested in data that is not in
the web tool, you are welcome to request further information at:
[email address
Under section 28(3) of the Act, you have the right to ask the Ombudsman to
review any decisions made under this request. The Ombudsman may be
contacted by email at: [email address] or by calling 0800 802
602.
