Hospitalisations & Deaths by Any Cause 2019, 2020, 2021

Jai Ganesh made this Official Information request to Ministry of Health

The request was partially successful.

From: Jai Ganesh

Dear MOH, This OIA request is for the following data:

Years 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 in NZ

Hospitalisations by month by any cause.
Deaths by month by any cause.

If there's a breakdown by age, that would be appreciated.
If a benchmark 5 year average exists, I'd like that too.

Thanks

Yours faithfully,

Jai Ganesh

Hi Jai

I sent you this information on 12-Nov-2021.  I’m reattaching the
spreadsheets.  Here’s the description of them again:

I’ve attached a spreadsheet which have publicly funded hospital discharges
(total and those with an intentional self-harm code reported) by age group
and month from Jan 2017 to Jun 2021.  I’d note that 2020 and 2021 is
incomplete at this time, though I wouldn’t expect many of the missing
records to affect the intentional self-harm data.

I’ve attached a second spreadsheet which has death registrations with a
date of death between Jan 2017 and Jun 2021.  This data excludes infant
deaths from 2020 onwards as we have not yet finished our data quality work
around the unregistered deaths in 2020, and this often has a large impact
on infant death numbers.

 -------------

I hope this helps.  Please contact me if you have any questions.

Cheers

Chris Lewis
