We have received your enquiry as to the detailed business case for the Marsden Point line.

Please be advised KiwiRail is currently working on the business case, including finalising costs and project timelines, for the Marsden Point Rail Line project. It is expected to be with Ministers for consideration, in the next couple of months.
During the business case development KiwiRail has engaged with Northport to ensure the business case is aligned with port growth projections. Northport have publicly confirmed that they are proceeding with consenting for expansion of their container handling facilities which means we have to plan to accommodate the potential freight growth.
Thus we are working closely with Waka Kotahi as it develops the business case for roading improvements in the area, to ensure alignment. Waka Kotahi's business case is expected a little later, likely in August.

At this stage there isn't much further to advise until the business case is finalised.
