Ministry of Education
Tēnā koe Anne
Thank you for your request of 30 April 2022 to the Ministry of Education
requesting the following information:
1. How many individual claims of abuse have been made towards Glenburn
Centre School (now known as Westbridge) specifically rating to the
period 1987-1992
2. How many claimants have been compensated?
3. What is/was the average pay-out?
4. Can I have any information relating to Glenburn centre School from the
period 1987-1992, in particular if Any staff were disciplined or
terminated due to misconduct such as inappropriate treatment of
pupils?
Your request has been considered under the Official Information Act 1982
(the Act).
Regarding parts one to three of your request, the Ministry has received
one claim about the Glenburn Centre School for the period 1987-1992. This
claim remains unresolved. As such, we are refusing part three of your
request under section 18(e) of the Act as this information does not exist.
We have not settled any claims about Glenburn for this period and
therefore there have been no pay-outs.
Regarding part four of your request, we recently completed a review of the
files we hold about this school, which included files that covered the
date period specified in your request. We are refusing this part of your
request under section 18(e) of the Act also as we did not find any
information about staff being disciplined or terminated due to misconduct,
such as inappropriate treatment of pupils at the school.
Thank you again for your email. You have the right to ask an Ombudsman to
review this decision. You can do this by writing to
[1][email address] or Office of the Ombudsman, PO Box 10152,
Wellington 6143.
