From: Alan Thompson

Dear Fire and Emergency New Zealand,

LACs are legislated for in the Fire and Emergency New Zealand Act 2017 (the Act). The Act requires the establishment of LACs to provide independent local and community-focused advice on community needs, issues, and risks related to Fire and Emergency services in each local area. The role of LACs in the Act is to:
▪ undertake efficient and effective local engagement for the Board
▪ provide local advice to Fire and Emergency on the national strategy, local issues, and local planning
▪ consider and promote the interests of the local area’s Fire and Emergency volunteers
▪ consider the interests of the industry brigades operating in the local area
▪ consider the provisions of any current operational service agreement and memorandum of understanding that Fire and Emergency has and that is relevant to a local area in which the LAC has responsibilities
▪ provide regular advice on Fire and Emergency’s progress concerning its local planning.

Under the provisions of the Official Information Act I request the following information:

1. Arising from their considerations, copies of the local advice to Fire and Emergency on national strategy, local issues and local planning as submitted to date by each of the seven LACs that have been established.

2. Arising from their considerations, copies of the regular advice on Fire and Emergency's progress concerning its local planning.as provided to date by each of the seven LACs that have been established.

Please note that I am referring to the outputs of the committee (the advice) as set out above and not to the minutes of the LAC meetings or the tables of action items or risks that they maintain as a committee other than where they include the "advice". I note that there has not been any such minutes posted since Feb 2021 and that the minutes before Feb 2021 contain no such advice.

Yours faithfully,
Alan Thompson
