Information Request – Local Area Committee Outputs 
 
I refer to your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) dated 6 April 2022 asking for 
copies of advice by Local Area Committees to Fire and Emergency New Zealand. We have 
interpreted “Local Area Committee” to mean Local Advisory Committee as described in Part 1, 
Subpart 2 of the Fire and Emergency New Zealand Act 2017. 
 
In accordance with the provisions of the OIA, I enclose all reports that have been provided to Fire 
and Emergency from Local Advisory Committees. This information is included in the Local Advisory 
Committees Quarterly Reports to the Board of Fire and Emergency. Some sections of these reports 
have been withheld as they do not deal with information provided by the Local Advisory 
Committees to Fire and Emergency and are outside the scope of your request. Some information 
has been withheld in one of the reports under section 9(2)(j) to enable a Minister of the Crown or 
any public service agency or organisation holding the information to carry on, without prejudice or 
disadvantage, negotiations (including commercial and industrial negotiations).  
 
In addition to these written reports, there are numerous informal engagements and interactions 
between Local Advisory Committee members and Fire and Emergency District staff on local issues 
that are of value to Fire and Emergency. However, these do not result in written reports or advice. 
 
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision.
