Celebrations in New Zealand for Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee

Unmesh Kant Shah made this Official Information request to Ministry for Culture and Heritage

The request was partially successful.

From: Unmesh Kant Shah

Dear Ministry for Culture and Heritage,
What are the celebrations and other commemorations planned in New Zealand for Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee? As Her Majesty is the first New Zealand monarch to reach a platinum jubilee, will there be places around Aotearoa New Zealand renamed in her honour? Could you also send me a schedule for the events in New Zealand held to honour the Platinum Jubilee?

Yours faithfully,
Unmesh

Kia Ora Unmesh Kant Shah -

I refer to your requests of 19 and 20 January 2022. These are noted below:

Will there be a separate emblem in New Zealand for Her Majesty The Queen's
Platinum Jubilee? The emblem used the United Kingdom was announced
following a competition, which was opened only for British residents.

For the Diamond Jubilee in 2012, the Government of Aotearoa New Zealand
released a separate emblem for New Zealand. Will this be followed for Her
Majesty's Platinum Jubilee? As the Platinum Jubilee is a historic event,
and Her Majesty being the first New Zealand monarch to reign for seven
decades, the Government should announce a special and unique emblem.

The emblem may be used for all activities associated with the Platinum
Jubilee in Aotearoa New Zealand, including community and national events,
publications, social media, retail and merchandising.

What are the celebrations and other commemorations planned in New Zealand
for Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee? As Her Majesty is the first
New Zealand monarch to reach a platinum jubilee, will there be places
around Aotearoa New Zealand renamed in her honour? Could you also send me
a schedule for the events in New Zealand held to honour the Platinum
Jubilee?

The Ministry for Culture and Heritage is transferring this request in full
under section 14(b)(i) of the OIA. Specifically, MCH does not hold the
information you have requested but believes the information is held by the
Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC). As such, this request is
transferred to the DPMC, who are cc’ed in this email. Any further
communication on this request will come directly from this agency. This
email serves as formal notification of this transfer.

You have the right to ask an Ombudsman to review this decision.

From: Unmesh Kant Shah

Dear CabinetOffice [DPMC],
It has been two months and no new information about the Jubilee celebrations in New Zealand has been released. In your reply, you said that, apart from the tree planting and beacon lighting, there will be other events too in Aotearoa celebrating the Platinum Jubilee. What events have been planned?

Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom have all announced a series of events that will take place during the Jubilee weekend in June, and throughout the Platinum Jubilee year. New Zealand should also make public the events that will take place in the country throughout the Jubilee year, celebrating the Queen's seventy years of service to Aotearoa New Zealand. When will the New Zealand Platinum Jubilee programme be unveiled?

Events such as parades, exhibitions, concerts, illuminations, renaming places after Her Majesty, are among the many options through which we can mark this important milestone. What options are being considered?

Yours sincerely,
Unmesh Kant Shah
