The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Medal

Unmesh Kant Shah made this Official Information request to Jacinda Ardern

The request was successful.

From: Unmesh Kant Shah

Dear Jacinda Ardern,
Will the Government release a separate Platinum Jubilee Medal for New Zealanders in 2022 for Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee?

New Zealand has not previously issued its own, separate medal to commemorate Her Majesty's Jubilees. As the Platinum Jubilee is a historic event, and Her Majesty being the first New Zealand monarch to reign for seven decades, the Government of Aotearoa New Zealand should release a medal for the Jubilee.

In an FYI request in 2021, it was said that the decision as to whether New Zealand would issue its own medal is for the Prime Minister. So what is the Prime Minister's take on this matter?

As we all know, the past two years have been very difficult for us all. So, awarding Jubilee medals to frontline workers and other heros during the pandemic, will be a nice step and will also prove to be a moment of pride for all New Zealanders.

Yours faithfully,
Unmesh
