Platinum Jubilee stamps and coins

Unmesh Kant Shah made this Official Information request to Ministry for Culture and Heritage

Response to this request is long overdue. By law Ministry for Culture and Heritage should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.

From: Unmesh Kant Shah

Dear Ministry for Culture and Heritage,
Will New Zealand release commemorative coins and stamps to mark Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee?

The Platinum Jubilee is a historic milestone, as Her Majesty becomes the first New Zealand monarch to reign for seventy years. Such an incredible milestone should be commemorated on special stamps and coins. Most of the other relams countries are also doing the same.

Also, New Zealand is not issuing a Platinum Jubilee medal. So, there should atleast be special Platinum Jubilee commemorative stamps and coins, in honour of Her Majesty The Queen of New Zealand.

Yours faithfully,

Unmesh Kant Shah

Kia ora Unmesh

I am writing in response to your Official Information Act request (originally directed to the Ministry of Culture and Heritage but subsequently transferred to NZ Post). I can confirm that NZ Post did release commemorative coins for Her Majesty the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. Details of the coins can be found at the following website: https://collectables.nzpost.co.nz/coins/....

NZ Post chose not to release stamps to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee as we had just released a series of stamps in commemoration of Her Majesty the Queen's 95th Birthday in 2021 which can be found at the following:

Dear Oia Officer,
New Zealand did release a set of beautiful stamps to commemorate Her Majesty's 95th birthday in 2021. But the Platinum Jubilee is an unprecedented milestone in the history of New Zealand and the entire Commonwealth, as the Queen becomes the first monarch of New Zealand to reign for seven decades.

To mark this important milestone, there should atleast be 7 special commemorative stamps from New Zealand, depicting the role of Her Majesty as Queen of New Zealand over these seventy years. New Zealand did the same in 2012 for Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee, when 6 stamps were released to mark the milestone.

Many believe that no other monarch in the future will probably reach this historic milestone of seventy years of reign. So, we should take this opportunity to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee with the release of some of the most beautiful stamps in New Zealand's history. I ask you to please reconsider your decision.

Yours sincerely,

Unmesh Kant Shah

I have passed your feedback on to our Stamps and Collectibles team however they have advised that they are unable to reconsider their decision at this stage. Ultimately it's a judgement call as to what commemorations best fit the programme in any given year.

Dear Oia Officer,
I hope the Stamps and Collectibles team will reconsider their decision in short time before it is too late. We should not miss this Platinum opportunity to recognise Her Majesty's seventy years of service to Aotearoa New Zealand on beautiful Kiwi stamps.

Yours sincerely,
Unmesh Kant Shah
