I can confirm that on the death of the Queen of New Zealand RNZ would:

•           Immediately Flash the story once it is confirmed – allowing
for the on-air presenter to break into programming to deliver the news.

•           Start rolling coverage immediately on air - take international
content straight away until RNZ breaking News crew and presentation team
is in place.

•           RNZ holds an “obituaries” file of material on Queen Elizabeth
which also contains audio from previously broadcast programmes.

•           Our system of “immediate rolling coverage” would apply, for
example, as for Paris/Manchester bombing type international stories. We
would potentially take BBC rolling first, until RNZ rolling is ready to
go, plus multimedia coverage on our website.

•           Radio would simulcast on RNZ Concert immediately.

•           We may suspend all regular non-news programming for a period
after the event.

I trust the above information is of assistance to you. As we are required
to do, this message is to also advise you that our response to your
request can be referred to the Ombudsman’s Office for review under s 28
(3) of the Official Information Act if you wish.

Dear George Bignell,

Thank you for your quick reply. I note that in your response you said "We may suspend all regular non-news programming for a period".

Is RNZ able to provide an approximate amount of days/hours that non-news programming will be suspended?

Yours sincerely,

Luke

Dear George Bignell,

BBC broadcasters are required to conform to a strict dress code when announcing the death of the monarch. This includes wearing black suits and black ties. Does RNZ have the same requirement for its presenters?

Also, does RNZ have a script that presenters will read out when announcing the Queen's death? If so, please release it.

Yours sincerely,

Luke

With regard to your further queries, as the people whom I need to consult
with are still on leave at the moment, and will be involved in
considerable "catch up" work when they return from leave, it may take some
time to respond to this and your other query , i.e.:

"Is RNZ able to provide an approximate amount of days/hours that non-news
programming will be suspended?"

In the meantime we observe that RNZ radio and online personnel are not
"visible" to our audience, so we do not hold information with respect to
dress codes required for these people.

I will respond further when I have had the opportunity to check what
information we hold in regard to your other queries.

Kind regards
