Hi Luke
We can confirm that we have considerable procedures in place. These involve interrupting regular programming for extended periods, appropriate dress worn by presenters, live crosses to our Europe correspondent and broadcast partners, and extensive use of our archive material. We can also confirm that we have prepared obituary material for such events, as we do in the case of other notable world figures and New Zealanders. Programming decisions would be made at the time of the event.
You may have seen the coverage following the announcement of the death of the Duke of Edinburgh, HRH Prince Philip, last year. In the case of his passing we ran a special on Saturday and our news bulletins have all had extensive coverage of his life, reaction to his death and the plans to mark his passing, both in the UK and in New Zealand. Specials commemorating his life followed in the weeks after.
Kind regards
Brent McAnulty
General Counsel & Corporate Affairs Director
