Informed Consent #30 - Journalist Non-Disclosure Agreements

Annie Weston made this Official Information request to NZ On Air

The request was partially successful.

From: Annie Weston

Dear NZ On Air,

I spoke to a nurse who is looking after a 28 year old journalist who is allegedly so severely injured after taking the Pfizer vaccine that he can barely walk.

Unfortunately he can't inform the NZ public as he relies on a weekly pay cheque from the Public Interest Journalism Fund and he signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement.

I understand that the funding is contingent on “a specific mandate to produce stories that keep New Zealanders informed and engaged, and support a healthy democracy.”

Question:

Can I please have a copy of the NDA that you use to restrict reporting on vaccine induced deaths and injuries.

Yours faithfully,

Annie Weston

Dear NZOA Info,

Thank you very much for your prompt reply.

I understand from your webpage that public interest journalism “contributes to a person’s ability to function as a valued and informed member of the communities in which they live and/or work”.

And that the PIJF “supports the production of journalistic content that is critical to an open, progressive democracy” and that "role-based funding is tied to content outcomes".

Can you please confirm which Govt body monitors and evaluates content outcomes and assesses journalist's performances.

Yours sincerely,

Annie Weston

Dear NZOA Info,

Thank you for your reply.

Please can you answer the question I asked of you:

Can you please confirm which Govt body monitors and evaluates content outcomes and assesses
journalist's performances.

To save obfuscation I'm referring to those funded by the PIJF.

Yours sincerely,

Annie Weston

We believe we have answered your request. However, to clarify our response
further:

With regard to monitoring and evaluating content outcomes this is
something we do continuously. We do not report these outcomes at a
project-by-project level as there is a degree of commercial sensitivity.
However, there is a lot of information gathered together in our Annual
Reports, which are available on our [1]website. The information in our
Annual Reports is audited and reports against the measures we have agreed
with our monitoring agency, the Ministry for Culture and Heritage.

With regard to the performance of individual journalists; under the Public
Interest Journalism Fund we provide funding for Roles or Projects. We
monitor and, again at a high level, evaluate the content those roles and
projects create to ensure they deliver to outcomes agreed to in the
funding contract which is usually around quantity, delivery and budget.
NZ On Air does not have editorial control of either roles nor projects.
Journalistic standards are maintained by the NZ Media Council and the
Broadcasting Standards Authority. We do not monitor the performance of an
individual, as this is subject to the employment relationship between the
employer (who receives the funding) and their employee (in this case, the
journalist.)

We hope this clears up any confusion you may have.

Ngā mihi

Te roopu o Irirangi te Motu.
