Emergency benefit rates

Brenda made this Official Information request to Ministry of Social Development

The request was successful.

From: Brenda

Dear Ministry of Social Development,

The social security act in section 63 allows granting a job seeker benefit not otherwise eligible, if they are under hardship.

s63(3) says the rate is at the description of MSD

https://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/publ...

Can you provide any info on what rates you currently pay these?

Information such as:

How many people are granted the job seeker benefit via this section of the act? (instead of eligible)
What's the range of rates paid to these people? (min/max)
what's the median rate?
what's the mean rate?
Are there any internal documents for guidance or some form of schedule in your polices on what rates are paid?

I am most interested in the current 2021/2020 year data, but if you have info going back further it would be useful.

Thanks!

Brenda
