We refer to your information request dated 18 August 2021 made under the Official Information Act 1982 (Act). You have requested information in relation to entry statistics for the Medicine (MB ChB) and Dentistry (BDS) programmes via the Graduate category for domestic students for entry in 2020 and 2021.

The Act requires that we advise you of our decision on your request no later than 20 working days after the day we received your request. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to meet that time limit. We are therefore writing to notify you, pursuant to section 15A of the Act, of an extension of the time to make our decision in respect of your request, by a further 10 working days - to 30 September 2021.

This extension is necessary to allow for the completion of consultations necessary to make a decision on your request. We have started to process your request but unfortunately due to the recent COVID-19 lockdown, our staff have experienced a number of disruptions and processing has been delayed as a result. We apologise for the delay and thank you for your patience. We will endeavour to provide the information sooner if possible.

If you are not satisfied with our extension of time, you have the right to make a complaint to the Ombudsman under section 28(3) of the Act. However, we would welcome the opportunity to discuss any concerns with you first.

Kia ora Anna

Thank you for your patience. We are now able to provide the GPA
information for 2021 for admission to the MB ChB and BDS programmes for
2021.

MB ChB: The lowest (correctly made) GPA offer was 8.5, and the highest
unsuccessful GPA was 8.48. However, an audit of the results revealed that,
due to a calculation error, two applicants below the highest unsuccessful
GPA also received and accepted offers. These applicants were still
entirely qualified for MB ChB study – with the lower of their GPAs being
8.27 (which was higher than the minimum GPA for admission the previous
year). Since discovering this issue the University has notified the two
applicants adversely affected by the error and is addressing the situation
with them.

BDS: The lowest GPA offer made in the usual admissions process was 7.72
and the highest unsuccessful GPA was 7.54. After classes had commenced, a
small number of unfilled places emerged and in seeking to fill these the
lowest GPA to receive an offer was 6.58.

We trust you will find this information helpful.

Ngâ mihi

Kelsey
