I would like to request under the Official Information Act information regarding the academic workshops for HSFY students run by the Māori Centre as well as general questions about special entry into professional courses through HFSY.

1. Is the Māori Centre funded by the university? If so how much funding are they allocated each year?

2. Are these workshops run by university employed staff?

3. Are the resources available to students invited to attend these workshops equally available to other non-special pathway HSFY students? If not, why not?

4. Would you be able to provide a detailed list of all the resources shared in the Māori center to HSFY students?

5. Are there any course coordinators, 'exam writers and/or lecturers of current (both semester 1 and 2) subjects involved in the workshops run by the Māori center?

6. What were the 2019 and 2020 UCAT thresholds for Māori and Pasifika students for entry into medicine and dentistry. How does this compare to thresholds for non-special pathway general entry students aiming for medicine and dentistry?

7. What were the 2019 and 2020 GPA requirements for Māori and Pasifika students for entry into medicine and dentistry. How does this compare to GPA requirements for non-special pathway general entry students aiming for medicine and dentistry?

8. How many HSFY Māori and Pasifika students were successful in entering medicine and dentistry in 2019 and 2020? How does this compare to the number of non-special pathway general entry students who were admitted from HSFY?

9. How many HSFY Māori and Pasifika students passed the minimum grade to enter medicine and dentistry in 2019 and 2020? What was this minimum grade?

* Would you be able to provide the exact figures for both medicine and dentistry separately as well as for Māori and Pasifika students?

We refer to your information request dated 20 July made under the Official Information Act 1982 (Act). You have requested information in relation to academic workshops run by the University of Otago Māori Centre, as well as admissions statistics for entry into Medicine and Dentistry via HSFY for Māori and Pacific students.

The Act requires that we advise you of our decision on your request no later than 20 working days after the day we received your request. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to meet that time limit. We are therefore writing to notify you, pursuant to section 15A of the Act, of an extension of the time to make our decision in respect of your request, by a further 5 working days - to 24 August 2021. However, we will endeavour to respond to you sooner if possible.

This extension is necessary to allow for the completion of consultations necessary to make a decision on your request.

If you are not satisfied with our extension of time, you have the right to make a complaint to the Ombudsman under section 28(3) of the Act. However, we would welcome the opportunity to discuss any concerns with you first.
