Citizenship application

Kay made this Official Information request to Department of Internal Affairs

The request is waiting for clarification. If you are Kay, please sign in to send a follow up message.

From: Kay

Dear Department of Internal Affairs,

Please provide the data for 2021 applications you’ve processed so far(Monthly).

Total number of applications you’ve received during these months.

Also, since January your staff is keep claiming that they’re allocating applications received in August 2020. It’s been 6 months now & still getting the same answer that August 2020. I mean, really?
We deserve to know the truth please.

Why the department is not hiring more staff members?? We’re aware that you’ve trained more staff but I guess that’s not enough. Why there is no initiative to remedy this delay? Processing time is increasing day by day and our patience is on the edge.

Yours faithfully,

Kay

Good morning Kay,

In your most recent request below, you ask for the ‘total number of
applications already processed under citizenship by grant’. Could you
please clarify what you mean by this?

Are you wanting a total tallied from the monthly breakdown of data already
provided to you on 19 July 2021?

Dear Eileen Fisher,

Thank for your email.

In your previous response, you provided a document mentioning the total number of Applications received each and every month.

Also, it states that how many applications were already processed in those months.

So my questions is out of those applications which are already processed/successful, please advise how many applications were under citizenship by grant & citizenship by descendent category.

I hope that helps.

Regards

Yours sincerely,

Kay

Thank you for your reply, I now understand what you are seeking.

The data that was provided to you on Friday was for citizenship by grant
only. I do apologise if this was not clear. As you already have the data
for citizenship by grant applications, would you like the Department to
provide you with the same breakdown but for citizenship by descent?

Note – citizenship by descent applications are a very different process
from citizenship by grant, and the standard timeframe for processing these
applications is up to 20 working days.

Regards

Eileen

Dear Eileen Fisher,

Thank you for clarification.

Now, the data shows the department has already completed few hundred applications each month in 2021.

Please tell me why the department is fast tracking these applications when you have thousands of applications from last year to be processed. Why double standards?

Yours sincerely,

Kay

Good morning Kay,

Thank you for your email.

I can provide you with information and clarity around the process and timeframes of citizenship by descent in our response to you.

However, could you please confirm for me if you are also wanting the Department to provide you with the data on the number of citizenship by descent applications received and processed, per month, so far for 2021?

Kind regards

Eileen

Dear Eileen Fisher,

Thank you for you email.

In my previous response, I’m solely talking about citizenship by grant applications only.

So, please read my previous response again.

Hi Kay,

You have asked me to refer to your last email, sent to me on Wednesday 22
July 2021 at 2.59pm, therefore I have interpreted your question for this
OIA to be -

'Please tell me why the department is fast tracking these applications
when you have thousands of applications from last year to be processed.
Why double standards?'

The Department will respond to this question only, and provide you with a
response by 16 August 2021.

Kind regards

Eileen

Dear Eileen Fisher,

I’d still suggest you to read the whole thread again.

I’ve clarified my question twice and It was just for citizenship for grant applications only.

Hence, I believe that you’re not providing accurate information I’ve asked for.
Yours sincerely,

Kay
