New Zealand NATO membership
Adam Irish made this Official Information request to Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade
The request was successful.
From: Adam Irish
Dear Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade,
With recent developments in Ukraine, along with:
-New Zealand's tenuous security guarantees indirectly via Australia to the USA through ANZUS treaty
-the USAs lack of commitment to maintaining security for Ukraine after it gave up its nuclear weapons
- the USA's lack of commitment in maintaining security for the former democractic government of Afghanistan.
I request under the Official Information Act if New Zealand has explored options to expand its defence alliance and join the NATO alliance. Especially in light of the People's Republic of China's growing military and threats to Tiwan and Australia.
Yours faithfully,
Adam Irish
