NZ Citizenship timeframe
Daniel made this Official Information request to Auckland Council
The request was partially successful.
From: Daniel
Dear Auckland Council,
As we know before the COVID-19 situation the timeframe for the citizenship was 3 to 5 months. As i understand during COVID-19 you make the time frame to 5-10 months little longer which is acceptable due to lockdown situation.
Now the COVID-19 situation is properly handled by the government, election finished and the businesses are going back to normal but your time frame is still the same. Can you please tell us when the Citizenship department will go back to normal timeframes and also can you please explain the breakdown of 5-10 months timeframe you need for so everyone have the clear picture regarding the timeframe.
Yours faithfully,
Daniel

Kia ora Daniel,
Thank you for your email.
Services were delayed while New Zealand remains at COVID-19 Alert Level 2.
We were also prioritising essential identity services including birth and
death registration, registration of citizenship by descent, and issuing
passports.
As a direct consequence of Covid-19, the number of citizenship
applications has significantly increased since March and a number of
Citizenship Officers were unable to work from the office. At this point in
time, most applicants are advised of the outcome of their applications
within five to ten months of submitting a complete and correct
application. This timeframe does not include the citizenship ceremony that
a person must attend in order to become a New Zealand citizen.
The Minister of Internal Affairs has agreed in the interests of public
health, to temporarily waive the requirement for new citizens to attend
citizenship ceremonies.
In response to COVID-19, there will be no citizenship ceremonies until
further notice.
If you have applied for Citizenship, we can look into your application ;
however we do require some additional information. The minimum information
we require is the applicant’s:
o Full name
o Date of birth
o Country of birth
o The full delivery address as stated in the application
o Application Number (if known)
If this application is for a child, please provide your full name.
Once this information has been provided we will be able to look into your
application and advise you accordingly.

From: OIA
Kia ora Daniel,
I have just become aware that some correspondence from the Department was
not posted against this FYI.org.nz request thread. As you see in train
below, my acknowledgement of the transfer was accidentally sent to
Auckland Council instead. The Department then also subsequently made a
combined response to your questions in this thread (14213) in its response
to your further questions in thread 14230. That response should have been
posted against both threads. I apologise for this oversight.
I attach the Department’s response here again, which was already provided
to you in our response on thread 14230. This email contains no new
information for you, but will hopefully be of assistance to other members
of the public who are interested in the same topic and read this question.

Kia ora Daniel,
I see that there was some delay between Auckland Council notifying you of
the transfer and notifying the Department of the transfer (attached
below). I note that the Department confirmed that it would accept transfer
on Friday, and received the transfer confirmation from Auckland Council on
Tuesday at 12.29pm, hence your request was received by the Department
today.
