    Dear Department of Conservation,
Could I please have a list of the cattle that are grazing on DOC land, as well of a list of DOC sites that are grazed by cattle. If the land is grazed under license, could I please also have copies of the grazing licenses.
Yours faithfully,
Harrison

    Tena Koe Harrison,

Thank you for your Official Information Act request to the Department of
 Conservation dated 24 November 2020.

You have asked for :
Could I please have a list of the cattle that are grazing on DOC land, as
well of a list of DOC sites that are grazed by cattle. If the land is
grazed under license, could I please also have copies of the grazing
 licenses.

Your original request requires clarification or amendment to enable us to
 respond.
o When you refer to “a list of cattle that are grazing on Doc land”, do
you mean a list of concessions issued for either beef or dairy grazing
activities on public conservation land? If you are after a list of
types of cattle that graze, we may not hold that level of detail for
each grazing activity. Unless we understand the specific information
you are seeking we cannot provide you with a response to your request.
The request is currently very broad and will result in the collation of
significant amounts of data and consultation with licence holders. For
that reason, we would be likely to extend the time in which we can respond
to you. We would also consider recovering the costs of the request due to
the significant size of the request.
From a broad initial look at the dataset, there are currently 427 grazing
licences relating to beef or dairy grazing activities. Rather than provide
copies of each individual grazing contract, would it provide sufficient
detail for your purposes to provide a copy of the standardised grazing
contract and a description of types of special conditions that may be
imposed? This would significantly narrow the time and cost required to
 respond to your request.
Please note, any clarification or amendment of a request is considered to
be a new request for the purpose of calculating the maximum statutory
timeframe for response—see section 15(1AA) of the Official Information
 Act.
It would be helpful if we could discuss this by phone. Please contact me
at [1][email address] or the Hokitika office 03 756 9100
to provide your contact details to arrange a phone discussion.
Kind regards,
Rebecca Beaumont
